Role Summary


Design, develop and implement technical projects for the fabrication, modification and evaluation of new or existing hardware systems or components. Projects may involve exploration of products and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches, origination or modification of material, component and process specifications and requirements.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design responsibility of variety of mechanical components of Base Station radios, including aluminum die casted, machined, sheet metal and injection molded parts.
  • Actively participate to the overall product electromechanical architecture design covering the entire product assembly, including brackets
  • Implementation of industrial design in harmony with product requirements
  • Packaging design
  • Thermal analysis & Thermal testing
  • Experience with static and dynamic structural analysis, solder joint / lead fatigue analysis, thermal analysis (passive and active cooling) and mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Technical contact and support for suppliers on DFM and technical issues.
  • Support manufacturing fixturing development.
  • Support to achieve environmental and safety compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge on design rules for various materials and manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate with electrical designers, layout engineers and project management to define and align the physical and electrical requirements.
  • Conduct design reviews with relevant team members.
  • Experience with high reliability of electronic component selection and design for reliability.
  • Generation of manufacturing documentation for vendors
  • Completion of the projects as per plan in time with quality
  • Creation and maintenance of component libraries and modular design structures.
  • Perform cost analysis and optimization.
  • Establishment and on-going improvement of best practices (e.g., design rules, tools) to achieve quality metrics.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring.
  • Experienced in various technologies in product design, including but not limited to Machined part design, sheet metal parts, Plastic injection molding, die casting, rapid prototyping and material and finish selection.
  • Must understand the complete product development lifecycle, capture requirements, and provide technical guidance and decisions.
  • Experience in detailed development and COTS selection of power and analog/control electronic printed circuit boards, connectors, modules, chassis, heat sink and mechanical fasteners.
  • Proven track record from mechanical design of telecom radios.
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes, including aluminon die casting, sheet metal and injection molded plastics.
  • Experience in requirements capture for printed circuit board (PCB) layout, and electrical interconnect design.
  • Experience in Mechanical Chassis design (End-to-End) for Rugged/Sheet metal LRU and test equipment.
  • Experience in Heat Sink Design, Fan Selection, Component and System level cooling.
  • Experience in EMC and signal cross talk optimized mechanical design.
  • Experience in Telecom standard IEC 60068-2-1 is required.
  • Experience with design tools, e.g., SolidWorks and FloTHERM & FloTHERM XT.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience supporting design fit checks during integration and test at the module, sub-system, and system level.

  • BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
