Cairo, Egypt (On-Site)Purpose of the position:
  • The System Engineering Manager is a technical project delivery role responsible for defining, specifying, documenting and delivering the engineering solutions for complex and critical projects in Egypt. 
  • Being able to understand and interpret customer requirements is a key skill required to be successful in this role.
  • You must also be able to listen, understand and provide assistance for technical matters relating to Automated Fare collection systems.
  • The System Engineering Manager, works alongside the Program Manager and the Head of Engineering. He is responsible for managing the program’s engineering-related tasks, and ensuring that engineering solutions are proposed, implemented, delivered and deployed to the agreed scope, budget, and schedule.
  • The System Engineering Manager must be able to provide engineering guidance and expertise to both the customer and the engineering team building a strong cross-team functionality. The position requires strong communication skills, and must be able to operate at multiple levels within the team. You will be the key technical contact between the customer and the stakeholders involved to deliver the solution.
  • The System Engineering Manager must be familiar with a Web Orientated Architecture including web and mobile applications.
  • The role requires proven experience in the technical management of a level 1 to level 4 Automated Fare collection system, in the integration of a ticketing system with multiple third party components, in the deployment of a complex and critical system.
Main Responsibilities:

The System Engineering Manager responsibilities are as follows, he/she must:


  • Deliver engineering solutions that meet budget, schedule and Customer expectation
  • Provide technical & engineering leadership on projects;
  • Ensures global consistency of the engineering process, practices and tools, organizes the co-engineering then approves lower level solution elements’ or components’ engineering plans including those flown down to subcontractors and partners;
  • Lead a team in performing all engineering activities, ensuring System Engineering activity operates within constraints provided by approved architecture and design policy;
  • Manage Requirements and Customer needs
    • Traceability

    • The purpose of requirements management is to ensure product (= technical solution to realize) development goals are successfully met. It is a set of techniques for documenting, analyzing, prioritizing, and agreeing on requirements so that engineering teams always have current and approved requirements
  • Define solution with specification documentation (during design, development and validation phases) : as writer and/or reviewer and/or approver
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations, program management, product management, and other stakeholders to come up with solutions, taking a technical management lead to deliver and deploy a solution that meet customer expectation, and transitioning from project to operations;
  • Lead cross-team collaboration using tools such as SharePoint, this is an essential role in the organisation for this position in Egypt;
  • Establish and follow engineering development plans;
  • Ensures the key people appointed on the Project are properly skilled;
  • Define and solve problems in a persistent and systematic fashion, taking an engineering lead on defect management in accordance with engineering processes and be hands-on with troubleshooting exercises when required;
  • Define solution with specification documentation (during design, development and validation phases) : as writer and/or reviewer and/or approver
  • Specification document : system specification document and interface specification documents
  • Identify and characterize the internal and external interfaces with two “components”. How and what are discussing the both “components”
  • Manage technical presentations, discussions, workshops;
  • Manage the engineering and technical review of documents;
  • Manage the analysis and capture of user requirements ;
  • Manage and monitor software development work activities and status using tools such as TFS;
  • Manages Risks & Opportunities of design and development, guarantees programme commitments, including those flown down to subcontractors and partners;
  • Monitors and coordinates technical and engineering activities carried out in accordance with contract and company quality system requirements;
  • Tracks competitiveness KPI, performs root cause analysis of problems and conduct associated corrective actions (Performance initiatives) at their level.
  • Contributes to the Quality Assurance activities by ensuring visibility on the engineering workpackages for the Bid / Project / Product.
  • Provides leadership for technical activities on projects such as the planning, implementation and rollout of the solution;
  • Lead and assist the customer in the process of FAT and SAT.
  • Acts as the technical interface with customers responding to queries and providing technical solutions;
  • Manages people effectively, including participation in the professional development of technical employees in line with the business strategy;
  • Manages the skills and competencies of people on their team – including themselves – in particular in view of requirements of an Authorised Engineering Organisation according to Competency Management Policies;
  • Ensures all designs are approved by the Design Authority;
Experience, Education and Skill Requirements:
  • A bachelor's level degree in a computer science, software engineering or any
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of technical management in Automated Fare Collection System.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of management of an engineering team
  • Experience in complex System Integration with third party component
  • Experience in Deployment of complex and critical System
  • Experience in Back Office financial system
  • Experience in Web Oriented Architecture solution
  • Microsoft office (Word, VISIO, Excel, MS Project)
  • tool’s practice like DOORS, POLARION or REQTIFY
  • tool’s practice like TFS or JIRA
  • Autonomy
  • Versatility and flexibility
  • Rigorousness, commitment and accountability, ability to take and meet commitments.
  • Fluent in English. French is a nice to have.
  • Understanding on solution breakdown description (=Product Breakdown Structure)
    • a solution is composed of several systems and sub-systems
    • each system/sub-system is composed of software component and hardware component
  • Customer facing
