About the job SAFETY OFFICER
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
We are seeking a highly qualified Safety Officer to join our team and ensure the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) are maintained at our workplace. The Safety Officer will play a critical role in implementing and monitoring safety protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and health hazards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable HSSE regulations, standards, and guidelines to create a safe and healthy work environment.
- Conduct regular inspections of premises, equipment, and work processes to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-conformities.
- Collaborate with department heads and employees to develop and implement effective safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Provide training to employees on safety protocols, hazard identification, risk assessment, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and safety-related documentation.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and substances in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives through regular audits, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders on safety-related matters and ensure timely reporting of incidents as required.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes in occupational health and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH Level 3 certification or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a high-risk industry such as construction, manufacturing, or oil and gas.
- Proven track record of implementing and managing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of relevant HSSE regulations, standards, and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, ANSI).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proficient in conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training sessions.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Fire Safety preferred.
